Joan Tara R. Reyes, an archaeologist and historian, earned her Ph.D. in History and MA in Archaeology from University of the Philippines-Diliman. She boasts significant teaching experience and a passion for unraveling Philippine history and archaeology. Through her active involvement in academic publications and conferences, she contributes to the fields of historical archaeology, Philippine cultural history, and intellectual history.
Sarah Agatha A. Villaluz is a meticulous and analytical researcher with 7 years of experience in recovering, analyzing, and conserving Philippine archaeological human remains. Skilled in proper handling and analysis of such remains, she also has experience as a field archaeologist, supervising research projects, and conducting archival research. She has worked on various archaeological impact assessment projects and has presented her research at international conferences. Currently pursuing a Master’s in Archaeology, her thesis focuses on reconstructing the physical activity of adult human remains from 18th-century burial sites in the Philippines. She has extensive fieldwork experience and has participated in numerous workshops and conferences related to archaeology and bioarchaeology.
Alfonso Lumabas has gained experience through internships at the National Museum, focusing on inventory management and bone cleaning. As a research assistant, hecontributed to a PhD dissertation by gathering qualitative data from Spanish and American period documents. Currently, hework as a junior archaeologist on various archaeological impact assessment projects, involving report writing, artifact cleaning, and qualitative data gathering. Education-wise, he holds a Bachelor of Arts in History and are pursuing a Masters of Arts in Archaeology. Proficient in archival research, computer skills, editing, and proofreading, they also possess Spanish language proficiency.
Mauro T. Alvarez, a seasoned conservator and practicing conservation scientist with a Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry, possesses over 40 years of experience in preserving archaeological objects and cultural properties. He worked at the National Museum’s Chemistry and Conservation Laboratory until retirement in 2021, specializing in underwater archaeology and conservation. Mauro has led workshops, conducted extensive research, and published articles on conservation practices. He holds memberships in various professional organizations and is known for his versatility in conserving diverse cultural artifacts.
Eduardo D. Bersamira, a seasoned artist and illustrator, graduated with a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Advertising from the University of Santo Tomas in 1970. With a diverse career spanning over five decades, he has worked in various capacities, including as a cartographer and artist-illustrator for the National Census & Statistics Office and as an archaeological illustrator/scuba diver for organizations such as Pacific Sea Resources Inc. and the National Museum of the Philippines. Eduardo’s expertise extends to technical illustration for publication and exhibit materials, as well as exploration and excavation activities in both land and underwater archaeology projects. He is an active member of professional organizations like the National Association of Underwater Instructors (NAUI) and the Katipunan Arkeologist ng Pilipinas, Inc. (KAPI).
Marcelino M. Macapinlac, Jr., holds a Ph.D. in History from the University of Santo Tomas and has been an associate professor at De La Salle University Manila since 2019. With extensive teaching experience across various institutions, including Ateneo de Manila University and St. Scholastica’s College Manila, his expertise spans Philippine history and cultural studies. He has presented numerous papers at national and international conferences and has received awards for his research contributions. Dr. Macapinlac is also an active member of several academic organizations, including the Philippine National Historical Society and the Manila Studies Association.
Alvaro Nagpala Calara is an Assistant Professor at the Department of Social Development Services, College of Human Ecology, University of the Philippines Los Baños (UPLB). He holds a master’s degree in Social Change and Development from the University of Newcastle, New South Wales, Australia, and a Bachelor of Science in Agriculture majoring in Agricultural Economics from UPLB. Calara’s research interests include social development, environment, multicultural societies, and youth studies. His recent work focuses on examining the co-production of gender and sustainability dynamics with Indigenous Peoples for sustainable nature-based livelihood in the Philippines. He has received recognition for his articles, including an International Publication Award from UP in 2020.
Eleanor Marie S. Lim, an archaeologist specializing in osteoarchaeology and stable isotope analysis. With a Master of Science in Archaeology from the University of the Philippines – Diliman and a Bachelor of Science in Medical Physics from De La Salle University – Manila, Lim focuses on investigating past human diet, health, and diseases through skeletal remains analysis. She has led projects such as “Philippine Isoscapes,” reconstructing palaeodietary and mobility patterns. Actively engaged in the Gender and Development Committee at the School of Archaeology, UP Diliman, she presents findings at international conferences and publishes in renowned journals, showcasing her dedication to interdisciplinary collaboration in archaeological research.
Dr. Maria Teresa G. de Guzman, Ph.D. holds a Doctorate in Anthropology from the University of the Philippines, complemented by Master’s and Bachelor’s degrees from the same institution. Dr. de Guzman has earned accolades, including recognition for excellence in Forensic Science from the University of Delhi in India. Her expertise spans interdisciplinary research, notably in Forensic Science. Serving as a speaker and convenor at international conferences, Dr. de Guzman addresses diverse topics from Forensic Science to Indigenous Knowledge Systems.
